Pressed Matcha Incense for Tea Warmer

This Pressed Matcha Incense for Tea Warmer is a refill card from INCENSE KITCHEN. Five to six small pressed pieces are arranged on a printed paper card, and the only ingredient in the fragrance is fresh Uji matcha. Choose from three illustrated cards, plum, pine, or tea, each with pressed shapes that match the motif on the paper.

The plum card is dark navy printed with white plum blossom branches, and the pressed pieces take the shape of small plum flowers and leaves. The pine card is white with painterly pine branches in soft pink and black ink, and the pressed pieces are shaped like pine sprigs and needle clusters. The tea card is a warm earthen orange with a white teapot illustration, and the pressed pieces include a small teapot and five tea cups arranged on saucers.

What makes this incense special is the matcha itself. INCENSE KITCHEN sources only fresh Uji matcha that has been rejected for food use. It carries the same rich aroma as tea-grade matcha but cannot be sold for drinking, so the brand purchases it directly from Uji tea farms and presses it into incense. Once the matcha aroma has faded, you can also soak the piece with a few drops of essential oil and use it as an aroma stone, so nothing fragrant goes to waste.

How to Use

1. Place one or two incense pieces on the warmer plate, depending on how strong you would like the fragrance.
2. Set a tealight inside the warmer and light it. Adjust the candle's distance from the plate to fine-tune the heat if needed.
3. After about 5 to 10 minutes the matcha begins to release its aroma. It lasts roughly 20 minutes per side.
4. When the scent fades or the surface darkens, flip the piece over for another 20 minutes. Once both sides are spent, the piece is finished.

The Story of INCENSE KITCHEN

INCENSE KITCHEN is a small Kyoto atelier with its workshop in Uji, Japan's most celebrated matcha-producing region. Its signature line is the only matcha incense in Japan made with matcha as its sole aromatic ingredient. Each piece is hand-pressed in traditional wagashi molds, the same wooden tools used to shape Japanese tea sweets, then warmed rather than burned so the aroma rises gently without smoke. Since 2021, every batch has been made with zero-waste matcha purchased directly from Uji tea farmers and processors, the fine and fragrant Uji matcha that does not meet food-grade specifications and would otherwise be discarded.
