TACCIA Ukiyo-e Kuniyoshi Aomenou Fountain Pen Ink
Aomenou (“blue agate”) is a deep, dark blue Japanese fountain pen ink. Concentrated applications settle into an almost-black depth, while lighter areas reveal a cooler blue undertone, much like the gradation from the shallow sea to the dark depths where light no longer reaches. Made in Japan as part of the TACCIA Ukiyo-e collection, this ink performs well in both fountain pens and glass dip pens.
The color is named after blue agate, a stone used in Japan since ancient times and traditionally believed to bring calm, clarity, and protection. The box features Utagawa Kuniyoshi’s “Princess Tamatori Stealing the Sacred Jewel from the Dragon Palace” (龍宮玉取姫之図, 1853), which tells the legend of a young woman who dives into the sea to recover a sacred jewel from the Dragon King and is pursued through wild waves by his sea-creature retainers. Kuniyoshi captures the underwater scene with the deep, atmospheric blues of bero-ai, the Prussian blue pigment newly imported from Europe.
