TACCIA Ukiyo-e Kuniyoshi Kuromidori Fountain Pen Ink

TACCIA Ukiyo-e Kuniyoshi Kuromidori Fountain Pen Ink

Kuromidori (“black green”) is a deep, dark green Japanese fountain pen ink. Heavily inked areas verge on black, while lighter areas reveal a forest-green tone with strong shading. Made in Japan as part of the TACCIA Ukiyo-e collection, this ink works smoothly in both fountain pens and glass dip pens.

Late Edo Japan was a culture of subtle, restrained colors. With sumptuary laws limiting bright clothing for ordinary townspeople, dyers developed an extraordinary range of muted hues, and Kuromidori (made by overdyeing indigo with a yellow plant dye) is one of the deepest greens in that tradition. The box features Utagawa Kuniyoshi’s “Battle of Kawanakajima: Uesugi Kenshin and Takeda Shingen” (川中嶌合戦 上杉謙信 武田信玄), depicting the legendary clashes of the Sengoku period between two of Japan’s most famous warlords. Fought repeatedly between 1553 and 1564, the Battle of Kawanakajima became one of the most celebrated military rivalries in Japanese history.

In the writing sample, the filled wash was painted with a brush and the linework was made with a glass pen, both on YU-SARI Fountain Pen Notebook. The 40ml glass bottle features Kuniyoshi’s original artwork on the packaging.
