TACCIA Ukiyo-e Kuniyoshi Uguisucha Fountain Pen Ink

TACCIA Ukiyo-e Kuniyoshi Uguisucha Fountain Pen Ink

Uguisucha (“nightingale brown”) is a refined olive-brown Japanese fountain pen ink. The shading moves between mossy depths in concentrated areas and lighter golden-olive tones in thinner applications, making it a versatile color for everyday writing and creative journaling. Made in Japan as part of the TACCIA Ukiyo-e collection, this ink works well in both fountain pens and glass dip pens.

The color is named after the muted olive-brown of the Japanese bush warbler (uguisu), traditionally celebrated as the “herald of spring” in Japanese poetry and painting. The famous pairing of “uguisu and plum blossoms” appears throughout Japanese art, although in real life the bird that visits plum trees is actually the mejiro (Japanese white-eye); the uguisu-plum motif is a poetic tradition rather than an actual sighting. The box features Utagawa Kuniyoshi’s “Seven Lucky Gods Treasure Ship” (上福神宝船之図), depicting the Shichifukujin (Seven Lucky Gods) sailing on a takarabune, a classic New Year motif in Japanese folk belief said to bring good fortune for the coming year.

In the writing sample, the filled wash was painted with a brush and the linework was made with a glass pen, both on YU-SARI Fountain Pen Notebook. The 40ml glass bottle is packaged with a reproduction of Kuniyoshi’s original ukiyo-e. Browse our complete collection of Japanese fountain pen inks.
